The
Sundarban National Park is located in the Ganga delta
in West Bengal spanning the Hooghly in the west and Teulia
river in the east. It is the home of the Royal Bengal
Tiger. The park holding more tigers than any other tiger
reserve. More than 400 tigers were recorded during the
mid-1980s. It covers an area of approximately 1330.10
sq. kms and is the largest mangrove forest in the world.
These animals have adapted themselves very well to the
saline and aqua's environs and are extremely good swimmers.
The
park is also noted for its conservation of the Ridley
Sea Turtle. Sunderbans
was declared a National Park in 1984. Being an area very
close to the sea, the Sundarban National Park enjoys moderate
climate throughout the year. The summers are reasonably
hot and humid. The monsoon is very active and it rains
almost throughout the season. The winters are comfortable
and pleasant.

PROMINENT FAUNA
Royal Bengal Tiger, leoards, crocodiles, crabs, Ridley
sea turtles, hundreds of species of marine wildlife, various
kinds of birds and snakes.
HOW TO GET THERE
The nearest town is Gosaba and park is easily approached
from that place by road. The town of Gosaba is about 50
kms away. The nearest railhead is the town of Canning
48 kms away from the park. The nearest airport is at Calcutta.
If people like to travel to Sunderbans from Calcutta by
road then it would be around 112 kms.
