This
Sariska and Ranthambore National parks with a thick forest
with nullahs and waterfalls are situated in the Aravali's
mountain.The Sariska reserve is specially called for its
birds. Here the most common bird is Peafowl and here population
of this species is the highest compared to any other reserve
of India. It provides the breeding facilities for the
grey partridge, bush quail and black partridge. The horned
owl, fishing owl and spotted owlets are often seen at
night here.
The
availability of natural water resources has played a crucial
role in the development of a rich avifauna. It contains
a number of lakes and tanks like Mansarovar, Galai Sagar,
Padam Talab, Rajbag and Painted storks. The sharp
cliffs of hills and narrow valleys of the Aravallis dominate
the landscape of Sariska. The forests are dry and deciduous.
The other residents include ground birds like red spur
fowl, peafowl, three varieties of parakeet, bee-eater,
shrike, quail, partridge, kingfisher including rare stork-billed
kingfisher, woodpecker and bulbul.
HOW TO GET THERE
Sariska is 200 kilometres from Delhi and 107 kilometeres
from Jaipur. Buses between Delhi and Jaipur go via Alwar
and Sariska. Nearest railhead is Alwar which is about
37 kilometres from the reserve. The nearesrt airport is
located at Jaipur the capital city of the state of Rajasthan.
