NATIONAL PARK
Bannergatha
National Park was established in 1971, it is in Karnataka
lies 20 km from Bangalore. The National park is spanning
over an area of 104 sq. kms. It consist of the teems of
the exotic species of the wildlife also varieties of trees
like sandal, jalari, chujjullu, neem, tamarind, zizyphus
amongst others. The hills with many temples perched on
them surrounds the sanctuaries. The mainly find inhabitants
over there are elephants, which are being migrate from
the Kollegal and nearby Tamil Nadu territory. Other inhabitants
of the park include wild pigs, panthers, bears, sambar,
spotted deer, and the black buck. Huge monitor lizards
as well as cobras, pythons, kraits and Russell vipers
roam the park. The avian population comprises pelicans,
cormorants, painted storks, white ibis and spoonbills
among others. One beautiful Suvarnamukhi stream runs through
the park, Which originates in the Suvarnamukhi hills.
At the foot of the rock is the famous Champaka Dhama Swamy
temple, built in the Dravidian style of architecture.
The temple enshrines an image of Vishnu with his consorts
Sridevi and Bhudevi. A trip to Bannerghata National Park
Will definitely be a memorable experience, for nature,
history, botany and wildlife buffs. The park is open throughout
the year.

The nearest railhead and airport
is Bangalore, which is 22kms from the park. The government
has provided the bus services between Bangalore and Bannergatha
Park. The mini buses and Vans have been arranged by forest
officers to take the visitors to the Lion Safari.
