Bangalore
the capital of Karnataka. Bangalore was founded by
the Vijayanagara chieftain Kempe Gowda I in Sixteenth
century. Some believe Bangalore derives its name from
the Hindu god "Venkata"(Venkata-uru), which might
gradually have become "Vengaluru" and later Bangalore.
Today it is one of the fastest growing cities in the
world. Bangalore is a city of numerous sights and
attractions. Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley
of the country, the nerve - centre of India's software
industry. This beautiful gem of south Indian tropical
fantasy holds in it the strongest traditions, the
clamor of commerce, the serenity of vast green park
lands, temples, mosques and churches, quiet back lanes,
bustling bazaars and dazzling shopping arcades. The
city attracts people in large numbers, from all over
the country, and abroad. Bangalore is attracting a
major chunk of Foreign investment in India. This is

AQUARIUM
| Aquarium
is located at Cubban Park, Kasturba Road. This Aquarium
is situated in a diamond shaped building. The aquarium
has a variety of exotic cultivable as well as ornamental
fish. |
ATTARA KACHERI
| Attara
Kacheri means "The eighteen offices or departments".
This is a two storied building of stone and brick. It
houses the High Court of Karnataka state. |
BAL BHAVAN
| Bal
Bhavan, a children park has a theatre and playground
in it. Many attractive things are there for children
like Toy train and boat rides. The Bal Bhawan is full
of surprises for the children. They can skin along a
boat, trot up apony ride. Chug around in a toy train,
wander about in the Foir ground and dress up their mind
inthe theatre. The Bal Bhawan is packed with entertainment. |
BANGALORE PALACE

Palace was built in 1887 by a Wodeyar king. This palace
was built along the lines of the Windsor Castle of the
Tudors with battlement, parapets and fortified towers.
It covers an area of 45,000 square feet, having a garden
all around almost giving it a fairytale setting. This
palace stands in the heart of the city |
BANNNERGHATTA NATIONAL PARK
| Bannnerghatta
National Park about 12 miles from Bangalore is this
beautiful national park. This lion and tiger safari
park is set amidst. The park is spread over an area
of 104 sq. kms. One can see the lions, tigers and elephants
in closed enclosures. There is also a Crocodile and
snake farm which attracts many visitors. Tuesday is
weekly off and this park is open from 0900hrs to 1700hrs
on all other days. |
BULL TEMPLE
| Bull
Temple is one of the oldest temples in Bangalore and
is situated in basavanagudi and dedicated to Nandi,
the mount of lord Shiva. The 4.57 m high and 6.10 meters
long image was built by Kempegowda in the 16th century.
The image has been carved out of single granite rock.
The original colour of Nandi bull was grey which has
now turned black due to the application of coconut oil
by the devotees. It is believed that the source of the
river Vishva Bharti originates at the feet of the statue.
The temple is always having some ceremony or other things
going on. Musicians perform there on the weekends. |
CUBBON PARK
| Cubbon
Park, right in the heart of the city is laid out by
Lord Cubbon in 1864. Cubbon park is a joggers &
walkers delight. This beautiful park is the haunt of
the seeker of pleasure and tranquillity. This well laid
garden is also a major attraction for nature lovers.
The garden is spread in an area of 300 acres. Cubbon
park houses many institutions of significance like the
Sheshdri Iyer Memorial Hall, Attara Kacheri, Museum,
Century Club and the Press Club. |
GANDHI BHAVAN
| Gandhi
Bhavan is located on Kumara Krupa Road. This Bhavan
houses many picture galleries which shows theentire
life of the great Mahatma Gandhi. |
GAVI GANGADHARESHWARA TEMPLE
| Sri
Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is natural monolith carved
cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every year on 14
/ 15 January (Makarsakranti Day) a ray of light passes
precisely through the horns of the Nandi bull and illuminates
the deity inside. This unique thing attracts large number
of devotees. The architect of this temple combines 'Vastukala'
with astronomy which gifts the world an amazing phenomenon. |
GAVIPURAM CAVE TEMPLE

unique feature about this temple is that, on January
14th, a ray of sunlight filters through an arch between
the horns of the bull and reaches the Shiva Linga |

| Hassan
is 194 kms from Bangalore. From Hassan one can go to
Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola |
JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PLANETARIUM
| Jawaharlal
Nehru Planetarium was founded in the year 1989. The
Planeterium aims to provide an awareness of astronomy
amongst students as well as the common public. In the
planetarium is the sky theatre with a dome of fifteen
meters in diameter and has a sitting capacity of 225.
Daily two shows are held there at 1500 hrs and 1630
hrs but not on Mondays. |
JUMMA MASJID
| Jumma
Masjid is located on Old Poor House Road. This was earlier
called as Sangian Jamia Masjid. Its prayer hall is adorned
by granite pillars. This mosque is the reminder of Mughal
emperor Aurangzeb's conquest in the south |
KARNATAKA FOLK MUSEUM

Folk Museum is located on the Kumara Park West, Sheshadripuram.
This museum has an impressive collection of folk music
and videos of folk dances. This museum is being managed
by Karnataka Janapadha trust. |
KUMARA PARK KANYAKAPARAMESHWARI TEMPLE

Park (Kanyakaparameshwari Temple) has murals of holy
places and Darpana Mandir displayingRishi's, Bhagwada
Gita and Vasavi history. This temple has many fascinating

LAL BAGH

Bagh is one of the many gardens in the city, Lal Bagh
is the most famous garden in Bangalore. This garden
was started by Hyder Ali in 1740 and later completed
by Tipu Sultan. |
MYSORE

capital of the Wodeyars is 140 kms from Bangalore. Mysore
is also known as the city of palace. Mysore is famous
for Sandalwood and Silk. This place is compared with
the Bunkingham palace in England. The musical fountain

NRITYAGRAM

is located 30 km from the city at Hessarghatta Bangalore.
The dance village as it is called was designed by the
award winning architect from Goa, Gerard Da Cunha. This

RAMANAGARAM

RAMOHALLI

the 400 year old Banyan tree which has its branches

ST. ANDREW'S KIRK
| St
Andrew Kirk is situated on Cubbon Road. A pipe organ
is also installed here in 1881. St. Andrew Kirk's walls
are adorned with polished brass plaques. Its windows
of stained glass displays the Lord Jesus and his eight
apostles. It also contains the plaques of John Cook
who was the principal of Central College in Bangalore
in1915. |
ST. MARKS CATHEDRAL
| St.
Marks Cathedral was founded in 1808 and was completed
in 1812. This Cathedral was consecrated by Bishopof
Calcutta in 1816. The features of this cathedral are
the Roman archers along the walls. This Cathedral is
a beautiful colonial structure having a graceful dome
over a semicircular chancel. |
ST. MARY'S BASILICA
| St.
Mary's Basilica was built in 1818 by Abbe Dubois, but
was later converted into an ornate Gothic style Church
by Rev. L.E.Kleiner. This Church situated opposite the
Russel Market Square. The Church was given the status
of a Basilica in 1973 through a Papal order by Pope
John Paul VI |
TIPU SULTAN'S FORT
| Tipu
Sultan's fort actually built by Kempe Gowda in 1537.
But was extended by Tipu Sultan. Fort's remnant lie
in the City Market area. Here in this fort Hyder Ali,
Tipu's father had imprisoned David Baird along with
a number of British army officers. The fort is noted
for its beautifully carved arches in Islamic style and
for the well preserved Ganapati temple. |
TIPU'S PALACE
| Tipu
Sultan's palace construction started by Hyder Ali in
1781 and completed in 1791 by Tipu Sultan. It took ten
years of planning and construction. This summer palace
of Tipu Sultan was built in Bangalore. It is a two-storeyed
ornate wooden structure with pillars, arches and balconies
flanked by gardens on either sides leading to the palace.
The entire structure is built in Teak wood. An inscription
on the wooden screen describes the palace as the "Abode
of Happiness". What ever remains of the fort, reminds
of the struggle by Tipu against the British. |
ULSOOR LAKE
| Ulsoor
Lake was constructed by Kempe Gowda II during the second
half of the second century. This lake 1.5sq. km lake
is dotted with islands. It extended over an area of
125 acres. The picturesque lake is located onthe North-Eastern
fringes of the city and is an ideal place for boating
and shopping. A Ganesh festival is organised in August
/ September. A place of prominence in the early years
of the century. It is a major tourist attraction with
a boat club. |
VIDHANA SOUDHA
| Vidhana
Soudha was built in 1956 in Dravidian architecture.
It is one of the most imposing building not only in
Bangalore but in India. |
VISVESWARAYA INDUSTRIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL
MUSEUM
| Visveswaraya
Industrial and Technological Museum is located on Kasturba
Road Bangalore. It is named after M. Visveswararaya
the Dewan of Mysore, who was responsible for advancing
the technology in the state. One of the specialities
of the museum is the mobile science. It displays an
aeroplane and steam engine in its compound. Many exhibitions
held there on electronics, motor power. On Scientific
subjects many seminars, demonstration and film shows
are organised periodically. The museum houses five galleries,
Engine hall, Electronic Technology Gallery, Kimbe Paper
Metals Gallery, Popular Science Gallery and Children's
Science Gallery. |

Bangalore
is fast growing as an important commercial city in India
after Mumbai. This capital of the state Karnataka is easily
accessible from any where in the country. Bangalore has
its own Airport with almost all the major domestic airlines.
International carriers are also having their flights to
the city. Bangalore has two railway stations, the Bangalore
city and Bangalore Cant. Konkan railway is also serving
the city and connects it from other places in the country.
