ADALAJ WAV
| Adalaj
wav was built in 1499. This well is preserved almost in
its original form. This well's carvings displaysflower and
bird motifs. Its highly decorated arch ways, pavilions and
corridors are the main attraction for the visitors. Adalaj
wav is one of the most ancient wells in Gujarat. |
AKSHARDHAM
| Akshardham
was built in Gandhinagar in memory of Lord Swaminarayan.
It is an intricately carved, majestic monument of 6000 tons
of pink sand stone awash with spiritual stillness. There
are three exhibitions on Indian Culture with light and Sound
shows, a multimedia show and an animatronic show. Games,
rides and food refreshments are other attractions of Akshardham.

CALICO MUSEUM
| The
Calico Museum was constructed in 1949. The museum houses
a collection of marble, sandstone and bronze icons. This
museum has two different sections-gallery religious textiles
and historical textiles. The museum houses a collection
of finest fabrics spun, woven which is printed and painted
in different parts of India and none of the items is of
less than five centuries. |
CAMBAY
| Cambay
is 92 km from Ahmedabad. At the Mughal time the ruler of
the area was called as the ruler of Cambay. In that time
it was an important port or trading centres in India but
after the development of Surat Cambay faded into the history.

CHORWAD BEACH

beach is 400 kms south west of Ahmedabad. It was built by
the former Nawabs of Junagadh. Chorwad is delighful resort
on the coast of Gujarat. The only beach in India where you

DADA HARI VAV (STEPPED WELL)
| Dada
Hari Vav was built in 1501. This well is also known as stepped
well and is one the finest example of Gujarati architecture.
This well is always cool even on the hottest days. It has
stairs leading down to lower and lower platform terminating
at a small, octagonal well. This well was built to provide
cool resting place and water to the travellers |
DAKOR
| Dakor
is a temple town dedicated to Lord Krishna. This temple
has a striking image of Lord Krishna. Every year on Sharad
Purnima night a fair held here and attracts a large number
of people. |
DWARKA

present day Dwarka is the 6th city. It is a temple of Lord

GANDHI ASHRAM
| Gandhi
Ashram set up in 1920. It was known as Satyagraha Ashram
during the lifetime of Mahatma Gandhi. It was from here
that Gandhiji started his Dandi Yatra to break the salt
laws of the British. A Gandhi Memorial Centre, a Library
and a Sound-and-Light spectacle offer an interesting display
of the Mahatma's life and work. |
GANDHINAGAR
| Gujarat
has its capital as Ahmedabad, but in 1960 a new capital
of the state was designed. It was 32 kms fromAhmedabad and
was named Gandhinagar. Gandhinagar , named after the father
of the Nation, Gandhinagar is the second planned city in
India after Chandigarh. It was built on the river Sabarmati.
Gandhinagar occupies an area 57 sq kms. It presents a spacious,
well designed look of an architecturally integrated city.
It is having 30 sectors. Here one can see extensive variety
of plants and trees. Famous Swaminarayan is also built in
Gandhi Nagar. |
GIR FOREST & SANCTUARY
| Gir
Forest is located 380 kms south-west of Ahmedabad. Gir is
the last home of the Asiatic lion. Here in this sanctuary
lions roam freely. A variety of animals are seen here like
Chital, Nilgai, Sambar, Black Buck, Chinkara, Wild Pig,
Jackal etc. Here also a temple dedicated to Bhim and his
mother Kunti is located in the heart of Gir, which is a
major attraction because of its hot water springs. |
HATHEESING JAIN TEMPLE
| Hatheesing
Jain Temple was built outside Delhi Gate in 1850 by a rich
Jain Merchant. This temple is built of pure white marble
and decorated with carvings. The Hatheesing Jain temple
is one of the best ornate Jain temple in Ahmedabad. This
is dedicated to Dharmnath-15th Jain treethankar. |
HUSSAIN-DOSHI'S GUFA
| Hussain-Doshi's
Gufa is located opposite to the Gujarat University, having
the collection of collaborative efforts of artist M.F.Hussain
and architect B. V. Doshi. This Hussain Doshi's Gufa which
has a configuration of cave-like structures was constructed
using computer aided design and tribal initiative. |
JAMA MASJID
| Jama
Masjid was built in 1423 by Ahmad Shah and is located in
the center of the old city. This mosque is one of the most
beautiful mosques in western India, with 260 pillars supporting
15 domes at different elevations. The building is built
at a grand scale and is an excellent example of exquisite
workmanship |
JAMNAGAR
| Jamnagar
was founded in 1540. It was built around Rammol Lake. It's
best known today for the Bala Hanuman Temple where, since
1964, there's been 24-hour continuous chanting of the invocation
`Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram'. It is famous for pearl
fisheries, tie & die fabrics and bandhini work. The
places to see with interest are Lakhota Fort which is a
museum with collections of sculptures from 9th to 18th century.
One of the interesting sites is an old well in Kotha Bastion
where the water can be drawn by blowing into a small hole
in the floor. Other places of interest in Jamnagar are Solarium,
Jansahed's Palace and Rozi & Bedi Ports. Jamnagar is
310 kms from Ahmedabad. |
KACHCHH
| Kachchh
is an interesting land and no visit to Gujarat is complete
without visiting Kachchh. The second largest district in
India. Kachchh produces exquisite handicrafts like embroidery
, tie die fabrics, enameled silverware and other handicrafts.
Kachchh is well known for its wild ass sanctuary. The great
Rann of Kachchh is also a breeding ground for the flamingo,
pelican and avocet species of birds |
KANDLA

is situated 380 kms from Ahmedabad. The places of interest
are monument of Mahatma Gandhi and Nirva Siteshwar Mahadev

KANKARIA LAKE
| This
artificial circular lake was developed by Sultan Qutub-Ud-Din
in 1451. In the Center of the lake is an island garden with
a summer palace known as Nagina Wadi, which has 34 sides
each side being 60 m long. This lake is surrounded by Gardens,
slopes, an aquarium and a Balvatika, a boat club, a natural
history museum and a zoo. This is a popular recreational
spot for the people of Ahmedabad. |

similar to the styles of Konark and Khajuraho but not as

NAL SAROVAR BIRD SANCTUARY

PALITANA

is over 50km south-west of Bhavnagar. Palitana is the gateway
to one of Jainism's holiest pilgrimage places. Palitana

Adjacent is the Muslim shrine of Angar Pir. Women who want
to have children make offerings of miniature cradles at
this shrine. There are 863 temples, carved in marble. Palitana
temples are considered to be the most sacred. |

centre for weaving. Patan was established during the Solanki
era. Patan is famous for its architectural wonders. Its

has been developed as a hill resort by the Gujrat Government.
It is about 190 kms from Ahmedabad and is situated in the

PORBANDER

Rupmati's mosque was built between 1430 to 1440 A. D. This
mosque was named after the Hindu wife of Sultan Mehmed Beghara.
It is having 3 domes supported by pillars with central dome
constructed so as to allow natural light to enter inside
the mosque. |
RANI SIPRI MOSQUE

Sipri mosque was built in 1514 by Queen of Mehmud Shah Begda.
This is a beautiful mosque in Ahmedabad. After her death
even she was buried in the premises of the mosque itself. |
SARKHEJ ROZA

Roza is one of the most elegant architectural buildings
in the city. In this building there has been a remarkable
use of pierced stone trellises. |
SIDDI BASHIR MOSQUE (SHAKING MINARETS)
| Siddi
Bashir Mosque is situated near the railway station of Ahmedabad.
This is also known as shaking minarets. The amazing thing
about the minarets is, when one minarets is shaken the other
one begins to vibrate. It is said that the minarets were
built like this to avoid damage during the earthquakes. |
SIDI SAYED JHALI

Saiyad Mosque was constructed in 1571and built by Sidi Saiyad.
Mosque is acclaimed for it's splendid Jhali screen, framed
in the ten semi-circular windows. This is a marvellous example
of delicate carving. |
SOMNATH
| The
temple of Somnath is one of the twelve sacred Shiva shrines
in India. Somnath was originally built out of gold by Somraj,
the Moon God, later to be rebuilt by Rawana in silver, by
Krishna in wood and then by Bhimdev in stone. The temples
of Somnath were destroyed seven times but were rebuilt each
time. Somnath is 5 kms from Veraval. |
SURAT
| Surat
is situated on the banks of river Tapi. Surat is a major
industrial centre with many textile mills. It is also famous
for zari and brocades and is an important diamond cutting
center too. |
TEEN DARWAZA
| Teen
Darwaza, were built by Sultan Ahmed Shah. From these gateways
Sultan used to watch the processionsfrom the palace to the
Jama Masjid. |
