| Hyderabad

of cultures. Famous minarets and its pearl bazaar make the
city a famous place, Pearls from all over the world are
said to come to Hyderabad because of the artisans who here
are skilled in piercing and stringing pearls without damaging
them. 'Lambadas' and 'Banjaras', the city's gypsy tribes
are known throughout the country for their colourful costumes
& emdashand Hyderabadi cusine. Hyderabad is at an altitude

B.M.BIRLA
PLANETARIUM/SCIENCE MUSEUM
| B.M.Birla
Planetarium is the most modern planetarium / science museum
in the country. It lies in the centre of the city. This
museum has regular presentation on various subjects related
to astronomy and space. It has been developed for the study
of astronomy. Sky shows are held here daily at different
timings and in different languages. Science museum is closed
on last Tuesday of the month and planetarium is closed on
last Thursday of the month. |
BIRLA MANDIR
| Birla
Temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara is among finest temple
made in India. This temple was built by Birlas. It was constructed
in 1976 and built in white Rajasthani marble. This temple
presents an arresting sight when illuminated in the evening.
This entire temple is built in Rajasthani Marble. This temple
is located on one of the twin rocky hills overlooking the
Hussain Sagar. From the temple one gets some magnificent
sights of the city in the evening. |
CHARMINAR
| Charminar
surrounded by narrow lanes was built by Mohd. Quli Qutb
Shah in honour of his wife, Bhagmati. It is the unique symbol
of Hyderabad. Charminar is surrounded by a bustling bazaar
of pearl and jewellery shops, perfume and attar dealers.
The famous monument derives it's name from the four pillars
surrounding the structure. The height of these minars is
180 feet's. |
DEER PARK
| Deer
Park is situated about 17 km from Hyderabad. This park is
spread in over an area of 300 acresof land. In this beautiful
park one can see many deer species and birds. |
GOLCONDA FORT
| The
city's primary feature, Golconda Fort is one of the most
magnificent fortress complexes in India. This fort was originally
built by Kaktiya kings Ganpati. It is located 10km west
of the city. From this fort the Kaktiya kings ruled the
near by areas. This massive fort with walls and 70ramparts
extending some 7 kms in circumference and 8 huge gates,
occupies a perimeter of 11 kms and its walls are 15 to 18
fts high. |
HUSSAIN SAGAR LAKE
| Hussain
Sagar Lake is important historically. The stone statue of
Buddha stands 17.5 meter high and weighs 350 tonnes. Its
construction was started in 1985and continued till five
years i.e. 1990. But when it was being brought to stand
it up on end, it fell into the water and remained there
for two year and in it was brought out of the lake in 1992
and placed on a slab right in the middle of the lake. For
having the spectacular view of the statue Tankbund is the
right place. |
MECCA MOSQUE
| The
construction of this mosque was originally started by Sultan
Mohammed Quli Qutb in 1614 and was completed in 1641. This
mosque stands towards the south west of Charminar. Mosque
reciprocates its name from the bricks which were brought
from the holy place of Mecca and which are embedded in the
walls of this impressive mosque. This mosque with high pillars
and arches of the structure, which have been carved out
from granite, is considered as one of the most beautiful
mosques in the nation and largest in the world. |
NEHRU ZOOLOGICAL
PARK
| Nehru
Zoological park is one of the largest in Asia and is spread
over an area of 300 acres. Different species of birds &
animals can be seen here in large numbers. Zoo houses the
lion safari park, which is a popular attraction for visitors.
This zoo has got a prehistoric animal section, which houses
animals not normally seen during the day. A special system
of lighting simulates bright moonlight for visitors to view
these rare nocturnal animals and birds in the daytime. With
other features like mini train, animal rides and gardens
etc. This Zoo has become an interesting place or picnic
spot to visit. |
OSMANIA UNIVERSITY
| In
1939, Osmania University got the permanent building, before
that, Nizam of Hyderabad started the Osmania University
in 1917 in temporary building. Osmania University, Now is
one of the largest in India. It is the imposing Arts College
building, which is displaying Ellora paintings and Saraceni-Moorish
arches on the first and second floor. Its huge gateway has
been designed on the design of building in Damascus. |
PAIGAH TOMBS
| Paigah
Tombs are about 200 years old. These tombs are situated
at Santosh Nagar and belong to the Paigah Nobles. These
beautiful tombs have marble inlay work on them. |
PUBLIC GARDENS
| The
public gardens another name is Bagh-e-aam, which houses
State Legislative Assembly building, the Jubilee Hall, the
Jwahar Lal Bhavan the Health Museum and the State Archaeological
Museum |
QUTB SHAHI TOMBS
| Qutub
Shahi rulers tombs are about a km from Golconda fort. The
larger tombs galleries are double storied and the smaller
tombs galleries are single storied. These tombs are surrounded
by well laid gardens and are covered with lovely domes.
The centre of each tomb contains the sacro-phagus which
overlies the actual burial vault in a crypt below. These
tombs are open from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and closed on
Friday. |
RAYMOND'S
TOMB
| Raymond's
Tomb is made up of black granite. His tomb is situated in
Sarrornagar, which is in the east of Hyderabad. |
SALARJUNG MUSEUM
| Salarjung
museum is the third largest museum in India and is counted
among the best museums in the world. This museum is located
on Musi river. The artifacts are kept in the 36 huge halls.
There are more than 35,000 artifacts stored here. The collection
in this museum is known as one of the best ever done by
any single person. Collection of the items in the museum
is done by, Mir Yusaf Ali Khan or Salar Jung III, the primeminister
of Nizam Of Hyderabad. |
SECUNDRABAD
| The
planned city of Secunderabad is 8 km away from the Hyderabad
and was established towards, the north of Hussain Sagar
Lake. Nizam Secunder gave the name to the city. The lake
built by the Qutab Shahi which surrounds Secundra makes
the surrounding more scenic and serene. |
USMAN SAGAR
| Usman
Sagar is the dam, which is one of the main sources of water
supply to the city of Hyderabad. The other important point
of the Dam is that it was essentially built to save Hyderabad
from floods in Musi river |
VIDHAN SABHA BHAWAN
| Vidhan
Sabha Bhawan is located in one of the best laid gardens
in the country. This white and elegant building is one of
the most beautiful Legislative Houses in India. The architecture
of the Vidhan Sabha is designed in the manner that it attracts
its visitors itself. |

train, from any part of the country. The main railway station
is at Secunderabad. There is a regular bus service to Hyderabad
from many cities in southern, central and south-eastern parts
